The History of Soma Organic Mattresses
Soma Organic Mattresses is proudly family-owned and operated business currently located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Soma was founded initially founded as Soma Sleep & Wellness in 2004 by John D’Amico, who at the time had been involved in the mattress and furniture industry since the age of 17. For over 30 years, he has been involved in everything from design, manufacturing, sales and distribution, as well as management.
Our original concept of Soma Sleep & Wellness was a visionary concept combining healthy and quality sleep products (mattresses, bedding, etc.) with an on-site wellness clinic that offered acupuncture, manual osteopathy, shiatsu massage and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
John’s original idea was steeped in his passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture along with a deep passion for a healthy sleep environment. Sleep is integrally tied to immunity and overall well-being.
Over the years, our retail concept has evolved, but our philosophy and mission have remained the same: to be the industry leader for natural and organic sleep products while helping people achieve a deep, healthy and restorative night’s sleep.
By providing excellent service and high-quality products for all of our customers, Soma continues to thrive and grow as one of Canada’s leaders for organic mattresses and creating a non-toxic bedroom.
In 2011, we moved to our current 5,000 square foot location on Bridgeland Avenue in the heart of North York. This has allowed us to expand our product selection to include items such as: solid wood furniture and upholstery Made in Canada, and in an eco-friendly manner.
