History of Soma
Soma Organic Mattresses.
Where Healthy Sleep Is Perfected.
Soma’s Origins
Soma’s roots run deep — first opening it’s doors in 2004. Originally we were known in the community as Soma Sleep & Wellness and we offered some of the first organic sleep products available at the time, while also hosting a sleep-improvement clinic.
Our founder, John D’Amico, has been involved in the mattress and furniture industry since the age of 17, and still remains active at our flagship sleep boutique. For over 40 years, John has innovated and initiated the design, manufacturing, sales and distribution of organic and non-toxic, ergonomic sleep products ranging from: mattress to pillows and bedding to sleepwear and spa favourites. During this time, he studied and served as a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, helping patients with their sleep issues.
In 2011, we moved to a 5,000 square foot location on Bridgeland Avenue in the heart of North York (401 highway & Dufferin). In 2024, we relocated into the adjacent unit, Unit B. Here we have a cozy sleep boutique with a curated focus, offering a broad range of luxury sleep essentials.
Soma remains a pioneer in the sleep and wellness industry. Our original vision carries itself to this very day: we combine healthy and quality sleep products to create bedroom environments that promote rest and rejuvenation, for the entire family.
Our focus is the three R’s: Rest, Repair and Rejuvenation. Soma Organic Mattresses continues to share our passion for creating a healthy sleep environment.
What We Value
Every human being has a fundamental need to be able to regenerate. When you feel your best, you are able live your best. Sleep is vital to this process. And when you sleep well, you enable your body and mind with the opportunity to reset. The result? You wake up refreshed and ready to live your best life!
Our focus has always been taking care of each individual, and their unique needs. From your youngest child, to your most precious elder, Soma offers a wide variety of products that promote health and longevity. You can trust that our products are safe for your family.
With well over 20 years of experience, Soma Organic Mattresses remains a proud, family-owned and operated business. We carry the same passion that we started with on day one: we want to help you create a bedroom environment that promotes the best sleep, and the best you. Although we no longer operate an on-site wellness clinic, which once offered services such as: acupuncture, manual osteopathy, shiatsu massage and Traditional Chinese Medicine, we continue to share a deep-understanding of balance and wellness through the sleep products that we offer. The fundamental principals have not changed: the proper conditions and alignment allow the body to restore it’s harmony, improve immunity and prepare itself for the next day. Creating your own sleep sanctuary is very simple — it starts with the very thing that you sleep on!
Many stores overlook the most important ingredient: you! Every client that we work with, receives our full attention and is provided with a custom-tailored solution, to them. We aim to simplify the process, making your decision easier. Through years of experience, we bring forth transparency, honesty and a wealth of knowledge. Soma staff care to find the solution that works best for you.
Soma Organic Mattresses is open 7-days a week. We invite everyone to visit our quiet and relaxing showroom, to take-off your shoes and relax while our friendly and knowledgeable staff take excellent care of you.
